A66 Speed Traps - This information is based on my experience driving the A66 nearly every day for the past few years. I take no responsibility for the accuracy of the information or the stupidity of your driving so if you get caught because the van was somewhere else don't come crying to me!!! I have marked on the pictures the location of the van with a red dot. This dot is as accurate as I can be using these maps. I have also included information about the appearance of the vans which I have seen at these locations. If anyone else has any information to add to this or sees any errors in my information the please email me at dave.faulder@btopenworld.com

West bound A66 Appleby - As you drop down off the dual carraigeway and the road merges back into single carraigeway there are signs saying "Possible Subsidance". A few hundred yards after this a camera van often parks covering westbound traffic. The van is visable for long enough to avoid it if you are on the ball.

East bound A66 Coupland - After you pass the Little Chef restaurant and the road merges back into single carraigeway it bears round to the left. Shortly after this there is a speed camera warning sign attached to a road sign on your left. No more than 150 yards after this the van parks covering east bound traffic. The van is technically visible early enough to avoid but is often obscured by traffic in front of you.

West bound A66 Warcop - A speed camera van is occasionally sited next to the new 'Tank turning' lane that has been constructed. It is on your left as you come round the corner onto the straight which passes the front of the firing range. The van is not visable until you round the corner, as soon as it is in sight you are in range - you have been warned! This one has very nearly had me before.

East bound A66 Stainmore Summit - There are signs indicating a parking area on the left hand side. As you crest the top of a small rise in the road the van sits approx 2-300 yards ahead of you on the left hand side in a turning area before the parking area. The van is not visable until you have crested the hill. If you are speeding when you do so then you stand a good chance of getting caught.

East bound A66 Bowes "Galley Bank" - Heading east as you drop down off Bowes heading towards where the road merges back into single carraigeway. The van parks on the left hand side in a gateway. It is visable as soon as you begin to descend the hill.

West bound A66 Barnard Castle turn off - Heading west as you come to the end of the dual carraigeway just after the Barnard Castle turnoff (on the right handside). The van parks on the left covering west bound traffic. Visibility can be obscured by traffic in front of you. In theory it should be visable.

East & West bound A66 Hutton Magna - Heading west you come down the dual carraigeway past the Barnard Castle turn off (on your left) and the road merges in to single carraigeway. There is a short straight stretch of road before you bear left. As you do so on the right hand side the van is often parked. From here I have seen it point both ways covering either east or west bound traffic. Heading east the van is sited on your left as you descend a hill. It is placed on a grass area in front of some empty cottages which as for sale. The van is visable in plenty of time if you are travelling west. However east bound traffic requires more care as the van is on you quickly as you round the corner.
